At Tour Merng Tai, we believe that great tourism must create lasting value for both people and the environment. For 20 years, we have operated on the principles of Responsible Tourism and Sustainable Tourism, with a strong focus on supporting genuine Community-Based Tourism (CBT) in the many provinces of Thailand.

We are more than just a tour operator; we are part of a robust network that works hand-in-hand with local communities to:

•  Generate Fair and Sustainable Income: Revenue from our tours is channeled directly back to local communities, serving as an engine for economic development and the preservation of traditional ways of life.

• Build Community Capacity: We collaborate closely with the CBT network to develop the skills of local personnel (guides, service providers, homestay operators) to meet high standards, enabling them to sustainably manage their own tourism initiatives.

• Develop Unique Tourism Products and Services: We innovate activities and routes that are one-of-a-kind, focusing on local culture, nature, and lifestyle through: New Activities and Routes: Emphasizing authentic, immersive experiences.

Its high mountain ridges, pristine river basins, and diverse ethnic cultures demand our highest level of care and respect.

Our operations adhere strictly to the Common International Sustainable Travel Standard, ensuring your journey supports local communities, protects biodiversity, and leaves a positive legacy.

Our Core Pledges to You, Our Communities, and the Planet:
Protecting Children & Communities: We enforce zero tolerance for child exploitation and unfair labor across all operations. We hire locally, pay fair living wages, and partner directly with indigenous Shan, Karen, Lahu, and Hmong communities under equitable community-based tourism (CBT) models.
Ethical Animal Encounters Only: We strictly refuse elephant riding, animal performances, and captive wildlife exploitation. We only visit accredited, observational sanctuaries and natural habitats that prioritize animal dignity.
Preserving Sacred Culture: We co-lead our village experiences alongside local community guides, ensuring cultural rituals, privacy, and ancestral traditions are treated with dignity and consent.
Eliminating Single-Use Plastics: Through our refillable water bottle systems and plastic-free catering partnerships, we are working to eliminate single-use plastics from every tour itinerary by the end of 2027.
Direct Local Investment: By 2028, over 70% of every operational dollar spent on your tour remains directly within locally owned, independent community businesses in Mae Hong Son.

How You Can Travel Responsibly With Us:
Carry a Refillable Bottle: Take advantage of clean refill stations provided on our transport vehicles and at partner accommodations.
Ask Before Taking Photos: Please respect local privacy by seeking permission prior to photographing residents, particularly children and elders.
Dress Modestly: Respect cultural norms by dressing appropriately (shoulders and knees covered) when visiting temples and sacred village sites.
Leave No Trace: Keep all natural areas pristine by packing out what you pack in and remaining on established walking trails.
